A WHITE FLAG Should Accompany the CONFEDERATE FLAG

Robert E. Lee and all of the confederacy betrayed his/their oath & allegiance to the U. S. Constitution. They were "all traitors to their own COUNTRY" by committing TREASON against their own country (the USA). But even more than being Treasonous Traitors, Robert E. Lee and all of the treasonous traitors who accompanied him were "cowards" in the end because they flew the white flag as a sign of surrender/peace. My idea is that the mayor and the city council pass/enact an ordinance/law requiring any citizen who wishes to bear, wear or fly that Confederate flag to accompany the same with a white flag which will be indicative that the person who bears the Confederate flag has empathy and comes in peace. Moreover, by requiring a white to be flown simultaneously with the Confederate flag, ANYTIME IT IS FLOWN, that not only reflects the accuracy of history (in that Robert E. Lee did indeed wave a white flag of peace/surrender), by making that the official regulation of the Confederate flags usage, that will create National Discussion on the proprietary of displaying such a symbol of hate and treason. See my tiktok video dated 5/22/2022 @kevinpresident2020 where I schooled a white man who I caught in his devilishment with a Confederate Flag. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTdoB1vU1/?k=1

The street names need to be changed. Using “history” as a guise to commemorate racists is ridiculous. Ffx is a melting pot, act like it.

Change the racist and offensive street signs

Renaming Streets in Mosby Woods to a Shenandoah Park Theme

Mosby Woods is a wonderful place to live because of its proximity to park land. Why not rename certain streets (Confederate, Reb, Plantation, and other references to the Confederacy) to celebrate our local VA parks and their flora and fauna? Here is a slideshow I have put together to propose these changes: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/12bvV8NkoZdggXRARboX3oQwKjk4Bb98hdzC7GrusYn4/edit?usp=sharing See you tonight!

Rename some, but not all

I was born and raised in FFX City, a lifelong Fairfax City resident that has lived on 6 different streets/neighborhoods in the city. The renaming of streets should not be taken lightly given the cost to taxpayers and the inconvenience to residents. There are a few names that are obviously offensive and should be renamed (Confederate, Reb, Plantation) but Ranger, Scarlet, Traveler? These are multiple meaning words, let's not waste taxpayer money. Nobody knew Mosby's horse's name until you told them. There are more important issues the council could be devoting their efforts to.

Seek input on renaming from students in the City

If the Mosby Woods neighborhood is renamed and a new theme emerges, students in the City could be engaged to contribute ideas for a new name and theme, possibly even as a competition of some sort. This could be a great way to create community spirit and show our youth that they can have a tangible impact on the future of our City.

Cancel this Engagement - Stop the City council - Halt the reeducation of our residents.

The City council has fallen for the Cancel Culture propaganda in vogue in the media. Conformity to a minority desire is what the Center for Conflict resolution is selling. Fairfax does not need to be woke in the eyes of GMU.

Fully agree. The City of Fairfax IS AN INCLUSIVE community!

This discussion leapfrogs over a set of critical thinking that needs to take place. Where is the racism and lack of inclusion that continually rises up from within our community of the City of Fairfax over these historic names and monuments? They are NOT the reason a man was held down to die this summer; it was a community of small thinkers in another state, another city; they were people given authority for justice who were skewed with evil thoughts and who acted upon them - they are the ones that held him down and they will pay the price for misusing their authority. These "discussions" on names, monuments, and symbols from history have not been brought forward with measurable bearing on actions or systems of racism in our City. What are they? Tell me. ... Or else, this is a wasteful use of MY/OUR resources of time, money, and people. ... Names, monuments, symbols and history do not enslave a people; small thinking enslaves people. These names in my community were always discussed with full context of history, not a one-sided distortion; so, let's talk about OUR City's history and OUR City's recent history of dealing with people, to lead to OUR City's best use of resources for OUR future!

Set up a process to rename anything. Or tape over the offending to signify it is bad.

With the culmination of the Civil Rights legislative fight of the ‘50 & ‘60s, we are now in the aftermath of that struggle. After a war streets are renamed as the victors get to write the history throughout world. It is now our time to rename streets and sacrifice statues. Street names can be deemed offensive by those who drive by or wish to buy property. It is reported that some residents of some streets are upset? **Simple solution**: the city establish a budget and procedure for renaming anything in the city. Creating a shareholder group for opinions will not resolve anything! **Even a simpler solution** for the offended, educated and historicaly passionate, derived from the censure methods used by other governments. Use a wide black tape to almost cover the street name. A taped over **Plantation Parkway **sign will identify it as an offending word to all who drive by. The postal nomenclature as well as maps need not change as the real intent is to advertise it is offensive to those who know and believe history needs to be amended.

Please stop this endeavor. We ARE inclusive

This is a condescending exercise which will accomplish nothing constructive except enable some to feel good about themselves at the expense of the community. Many do not want to voice their opinion out of fear of being called a racist. Teach your children history the good and the bad and stop this. Yes there is a lot of Civil War history but do not wipe it out. I am not a southerner so I am not tied to the south. We have many more things to address in our City, and I think the Mayor and most on the Council are passing the buck to the Carter group at Mason...yet another "study" promoted by them. If you must, take a vote of the RESIDENTS, it's only fair because we will be inconvenienced having to change our addresses with all of our contacts. I live in Mosby Woods and we have always been inclusive, but I have a sense that it's a "done deal" and you are using the Carter group as a cover for your political agenda. I hope I am wrong.

Identify mid-20th century subdivisions constructed under racially restrictive covenants and develop plan of amends

Prior to the 1948 Shelley v. Kraemer ruling by the Supreme Court, restrictive covenants commonly existed within suburban communities to prohibit Black homeownership. Additionally, through the 1950's and until an executive order by President Kennedy in 1962, the Federal Housing Authority disenfranchised Black homeownership by refusing to insure suburban builders who planned to racially integrate their subdivisions. It wasn't until 1968 when the Fair Housing Act was passed into law that the government endorsed the rights of African Americans to reside wherever they chose. The destructive legacy of these practices continues to effect racial equality today. If any such communities existed in Fairfax City where Black Americans were once forbidden from purchasing or occupying homes, or where builders financed or insured by the Federal government were restricted from selling to African Americans, they should be identified, and a plan should be developed to make amends.

Student Unions

At school, we have student unions for people of different cultures, and they are really fun to attend to learn more about different cultures. I think we should work on having more of those in schools to increase representation.
