UPDATE - May 7, 2024: The City of Fairfax awarded a contract to Utilities Unlimited to complete the construction of drainage improvements at Fern Street and Park Road.
Temporary lane closures will be necessary in the project area during construction. Patrick Di Nicola of RK&K is the construction inspector. He will coordinate with the residents whose driveway access will be impacted by the construction activities. He can be contacted at 443-615-0225 or pdinicola@rkk.com.
###
This project was developed in response to drainage concerns reported by residents in the area. The primary goal of this project is to prevent stormwater runoff from Fern Street from flowing onto private properties. New storm sewer inlets and pipes will collect and carry runoff from the roadway to the existing downstream storm sewer system.
The project area starts at the intersection of Fern Street and Oakwood Drive and extends north on the east side of Fern Street to a portion of Park Road. This project will construct approximately 550 linear feet of curb and gutter and install stormwater pipes and inlets along Fern Street and Park Road. In addition to the drainage improvements, driveway aprons and approximately 120 linear feet of sidewalk will be installed, and asphalt pavement along designated areas will be replaced.
While most of the work will take place on the public right-of-way, some small portions of private property next to the road will need to be adjusted so they meet the frontage improvements. We sincerely appreciate the residents’ cooperation and providing the city with the necessary easements.
