About the Project

The City of Fairfax was awarded a federal Safe Streets for All grant to develop Move Fairfax City, a plan to improve transportation safety and walkability throughout the city and in Old Town Fairfax. This plan has three components:

  • A citywide Safety Action Plan, which will develop recommendations to improve roadway safety and reduce deaths and serious injuries for all users (drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders).Venn diagram illustrating the overlap of the three component plans of Move Fairfax (the Safety Action Plan, the Pedestrian Master Plan, and the Old Town Circulation Study)
  • A citywide Pedestrian Master Plan, which will prioritize recommendations for pedestrian improvement projects.
  • An Old Town Fairfax Circulation Study, which will evaluate the feasibility of alternative traffic circulation patterns and pedestrian improvements including those proposed in the Old Town Fairfax Small Area Plan and identify a preferred network and streetscape design for implementation.

All three plans will work together towards a safe, walkable, and thriving Fairfax.
