The City of Fairfax Department of Public Works will rehabilitate a sanitary sewer pipe that runs through Fairfax County’s Villa D’ Este Park and crosses Cardinal Road in Fairfax City’s Cambridge Station neighborhood. The project will begin around Sept. 15, and work is expected to be completed in October.
A cured-in-place-pipe liner will be installed inside the 21-inch sanitary sewer pipe that runs adjacent to the stream in the park. Inserting a CIPP liner requires no excavation and is less expensive than replacing an old, deteriorating pipe. The liner will prevent sewer backups and overflows and add many years of service life to the pipe.
Most construction activity will occur in Villa D’ Este Park; however, residents can expect to see city staff and contractors working on Cardinal Road. The city identified the section of pipe for rehabilitation in 2019.
The contractor will access the pipe from manholes located in Fairfax County. The diagram below identifies the location of the pipe to be lined and where timber matting will be placed to prevent soil compaction.
If you experience any disruption to sanitary sewer service, contact the Wastewater Division immediately at 703-385-7915. For additional questions or concerns, please contact Patrick, utilities project manager, at 703-245-6330 or patrick.remson@fairfaxva.gov.
