Consultation has concluded
The Missing Link This project will construct a missing link of path on the west side of Chain Bridge Road between Assembly Drive and Northfax Street (formerly Orchard Street). The new trail section would connect north to the shared use path being constructed as part of the Eaton Place/Chain Bridge Road intersection improvements, approved by City Council on April 11, 2023. The trail would connect west to the on-road bicycle lanes being constructed on Northfax Street and south to the new path being constructed as part of the site redevelopment.
Stitching Neighborhoods Together A shared use path in this location was recommended in the Northfax Small Area Plan. Page 10 of the plan describes the idea of stitching together neighborhoods: “A key idea of the Northfax vision is to bridge the divides between Northfax and the surrounding neighborhoods and to connect with the Accotink Creek watershed. The vision recommends new pedestrian crossings at Chain Bridge Road and Fairfax Boulevard, as well as better pedestrian and bicycle facilities on major streets.”
Priority Project This project is included in the city’s FY2024-25 Two-Year Transportation Program, adopted by City Council on June 13, 2023. The projects in the program are eligible for regional, state, and federal funding consideration over the next 2-10 years. The projects recommended in the program balance local and regional transportation needs, improve connectivity, and facilitate livability.
Funding The City Council will be asked to endorse an application for federal Transportation Alternatives funding for this project at their September 12 City Council meeting. Councilmembers will review feedback from the current outreach period when considering endorsement of the funding application. If the city is successful in receiving this funding, it would become available in 2024, with construction occurring in 2025-2026.
Open House The proposed plans for the path will be presented at an open house from 5-7 p.m. on July 12 at Willowwood Plaza, located at 10300 Eaton Pl.

I looked over all the plans. Two days is too short a response time to take it all in. Remember why people moved into the city in the first place. If we wanted an urban environment that's what we would of chosen to begin with. Fairfax is a small city. Cramming it full of uninspired architecture will just make it look like Mosaic,

Attended the open house last night and saw the plans for this project. The plans look great and will accomplish the Northfax Small Area plan to link the 2 sides of Chain Bridge Road and provide improved SAFETY for pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
